Welcome to the homepage of the artist Gerhild Diesner!

Gerhild Diesner is one of the most important female Austrian artists from the 20th century, who developed an own imagery due to great impulses from the French art.

Her works convince especially through their expressive and vibrant colours. During study strips to England and above all to France she came in touch with paintings by André Lhote, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh and Henri Matisse. Diesner was certainly influenced by the intensive colours and the use of forms of these artists. At the same time there are parallels between her paintings and the German expressionists, although she used more ornamental and decorative elements.

Gerhild Diesner did oil canvases, gouaches and drawings as well as mosaics, wall paintings and tapestries. She was one of the most important artists in the 1950s in Tyrol, beside Max Weiler, Walter Honeder and Werner Scholz.
